Elm City Elm European Pen
New Haven is called the Elm City. This pen was made from one of six 35 year old Japanese grey bark Elm trees (Zelkova serratta) that shaded the sidewalk entrance to the Security Insurance Company of New Haven Building at 155 Whitney Avenue. The building was purchased by Yale and used for general University administration until 2010 when the trees and the building were removed to make way for the new Yale School of Management. The wood is reddish orange with a marked grain.
Also contains a designer pen box and a card describing the history of the tree and its location.
